Chris Khoo, ends his appointment as High Sheriff of Royal County of BerkshireChristopher Khoo (Lights ’66) was sworn in as the High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire in the Crown Court, in Reading, Berkshire, on March 31st 2014, before a High Court Judge and the Lord Lieutenant. Co-incidentally the Judge was Old Wellingtonian Sir Nigel Sweeney (Darks ‘71).The first recorded High Sheriff of Berkshire died at the Battle of Hastings at the start of the Norman Conquest in 1066. It is believed that Chris is the first person of Chinese descent to be appointed to the role, which is now largely ceremonial, but carries the status of being the Queen’s highest judicial officer in the county.Chris was born in Singapore and after Wellington went to the University of Cambridge and St Mary's Hospital London (now Imperial College). He was consultant plastic surgeon in the National Health Service for 25 years, and he remains in independent surgical practice.
