Adelaide Banyard
06/03/2015
Adelaide Banyard (Gillards ’09) has been awarded the Herbert Lott Sword for the Officer Under Training who has made the most outstanding contribution to his/her entry 2013/14. The Sword was presented to Adelaide by the Inspecting Officer, General Sir Nick Houghton, Chief of Defence Staff at her Passing Out Parade at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

Adelaide was one of Wellington’s best naval cadets. Jeremy Hellier, Commanding Officer of the CCF during Adelaide’s time at Wellington comments: “I always knew she would make a splendid Naval Officer after an incident that took place when we were sailing a large yacht in the Solent one day. There was a serious accident off Bembridge, Isle of Wight and as we were the closest vessel the law of the sea requires that we take action. Adelaide was very calm and efficient and immediately took charge of the radio. She will be a great asset to the Captain of a warship and I have every confidence that she will be the Captain one day.”
